ALL-FILL EXPANDS PHASE ONE: Demolition

September 6th, 2018

WHEN STARTING A MAJOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT, THERE IS EITHER A CLEAN SITE TO START WITH OR SOMETHING NEEDS TO COME DOWN. ALL-FILL INC STARTED IN NEWTOWN SQUARE IN 1969 AND HAS RELOCATED TWICE AS A RESULT OF RAPID GROWTH WITHIN THE COMPANY. AS THE BUSINESS GREW AND 25 YEARS PASSED, ALL FILL FOUND ITSELF IN A SIMILAR PREDICAMENT. INSTEAD OF MOVING THE COMPANY TO ANOTHER LOCATION THAT WOULD INCREASE THE COMMUTE FOR MANY EMPLOYEES, AN ADDITION TO THE EXISTING BUILDING WAS CONSIDERED THE BEST SOLUTION.

The addition project will happen in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of the addition and offices. Phase two is the completion of offices as well as the expansion of the assembly and machine shop floors.

A major focus point in this project is the all glass second story addition which will contain offices and conference rooms. With an updated floor plan and additional offices as well as conference rooms on the first floor, the shop floor space can be doubled.

Preparations for the construction were well underway in April. Wiring had to be moved for network access. Not too long after that, employees that had offices in that needed to be demolished space for the addition were relocated to temporary offices for the duration of the addition. The last person to move their office was in reception. Reception required an open space at the side entrance, as that would act as the temporary front door while the project was underway. Once reception was built, All-Fill was done moving until the end of phase one.

In the beginning of June, our site was being prepared for demolition. Electricians were everywhere as outlets were being removed and wires disconnected. Ducts were being moved as well. While some walls were being torn down, temporary walls were going up to contain the construction into one localized area.

Bright and early on a sunny day in June, an excavator arrived on site and the demolition started on the outside of the building. As employees started to pull in for work, a mixture of emotions spread across their faces. This building has been a constant in All-Fill lives for the past 25 years and on that day a change started.

A somber feeling passed through the construction site as many stared at the building as bricks started to fall to the ground among the rubble. Few stayed out to watch as the All-Fill lettering on the front of the building came down.

Big changes bring about big messes and there is nothing left to do other than clean it up. For the amount of materials in that were removed from the front of the building, the clean-up took about a week. As one dump truck left with debris, another one pulled into the lot to be loaded with more. Dumpsters left the facility in droves that week filled with rocks.

More information about the construction update will be posted. For more information about All-Fill Inc, please visit our website at www.allfill.com.
